Welcome to Hollywood! The new Columbus Casino, that is. As Ohio voters approved gambling casinos in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati, hopes were high that the influx of this new Ohio gaming industry would give our state an economic boost. Columbus City Council has already ear-marked casino revenue long before the first roll of the dice. What impact will the 0 million new facility and the expected impact of 2000 new jobs have on our local community? Past Columbus Metropolitan Club forums have included debates about the potential benefits and challenges that the gaming industry could bring to Ohio, but now that the casino is a reality, CMC January 25th forum focuses on the plans of the under-construction Hollywood Casino in Columbus. Bill Cohen of the Statehouse News Bureau will moderate a discussion with Ameet Patel, the General Manager of the Hollywood Casino Columbus and Jo Ann Davidson, the Chair of the Casino Control Commission. With extensive experience in the gaming industry including the Bahamas, Atlantic City and most recently West Virginia, Patel was assigned by Penn National to the construction site on Columbus’ west side to oversee the opening of their new casino. Literally building from the ground up, Patel is responsible for moving the project forward to opening day, expected in late 2012.
